BURNIE Football Club president Shane Walker will step down at the end of the year.
However, Walker was quick to point out his decision had nothing to do with the Dockers' historic vote on Tuesday night to join AFL Tasmania's proposed statewide league next year.
"The job as president takes a fair commitment of time, and over the past three years I've been finding I've got less and less time to give," he said.
Walker said he had a busy job and a growing family and needed to spend more time with both.
He said he would remain as a Dockers board member next season, as he still has a year to serve on his term.
"With where the club is heading now, it needs a new president who can give more time to the job than I can," Walker said.
"We've got a good board of directors and most of them will be there next year, so there will be some continuity, which is very important, given what the club is about to go through," he said.
