IN THEIR 20 years in the industry, Greg and Rosemary Muir have seen newsagents transform into a one-stop shop.
But what they have given to their customers, and community, in that time, has extended beyond what is offered in-store.
The couple owned the Latrobe newsagency for two years before buying their store in East Devonport 18 years ago.
While Mr Muir names selling a winning $9 million Powerball ticket as one of the most memorable experiences in that time, the role they have been able to play in the community has been most important to them.
As well as providing all the usual products and services one expects at a newsagent, the couple have heavily supported local sporting groups and charity.
"It used to be paper, magazines and greeting cards," Mr Muir said.
"Now it's absolutely, totally different."
The inclusion of bill payment services, ATMs, phone re-charge cards and Aurora Pay-As-You-Go have seen newsagencies take on a more service-oriented role.
As so many people call into the store for various reasons, the Muirs have become very in-tune with the surrounding community.
"We've become more and more involved with the general public," Mr Muir said.
"You get to know people and they get to know you.
"We sell second-hand books and all the proceeds go to charity - charity is someone who we think is deserving in the town."
But the Muirs feel the support they give to their customers and community is mutual.
As they prepare to retire, hopefully at the end of next month, they wanted to pass on their appreciation to the people who have helped them along the way.
"We want to thank all our very good friends and customers we've had both here and at Latrobe, for their support," Mr Muir said.
