TWO KILLED, TWO INJURED Horror start to NW Easter break

21/03/2008 11:00:00 PM
TWO people were killed in separate North-West crashes yesterday, giving Tasmania its first Easter road deaths in three years.

Police blamed the "trifecta" of not wearing a seatbelt, speed and drink-driving for the death of a 25-year-old Sheffield man.

The man died after he was thrown from the car he was driving when it rolled near Sheffield about 1am. His 17-year-old passenger was injured.

Less than 12 hours later, a crash near Stowport, south of Burnie, claimed the life of a 49-year-old Natone woman.

Police believe the woman died after her motorcycle and another vehicle collided on a Natone Rd corner about 12.20pm.

Last night the Westpac rescue helicopter was called to airlift a 16-year-old boy who sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident at Sundown Point, just south of the Arthur River on the West Coast.
