"I was just so disorganised and nervous when I went for the audition in Hobart, so it was amazing that I was selected," Katelyn said.

"I did have three songs ready to sing, but I was so surprised to get through to the second round that I didn't feel prepared at all."

But not only was the Heybridge 16-year-old one of the lucky few selected, she was also the youngest performer chosen in the state.

Lining up with 100 other hopefuls at 7am, she spent the day jamming with other musicians until called for her first audition at 5pm.

"I chose to sing Wonderwall by Oasis and 20 Good Reasons by Thirsty Merc.

"I had a really positive response from the judges and the vocal instructor, Erina Clark, gave me great feedback ... mostly not to be so nervous," Kateyln laughed.

"The producer also suggested to pick a happier song for my next audition in front of Marcia, Dicko and Kyle."

A constant fixture on the Coast's music scene, the Penguin High student has performed with the Burnie Youth choir and received tuition from singing teachers across the Coast.

"I just love singing for the adrenaline and the thrill of making people happy."

"I had been waiting nearly five years to audition for the show because I was too young, but I never dreamed I would get picked."
